UPDATE: SUV Passenger Dies After Crash on U.S. Highway 151

A deadly crash on U.S. Highway 151 in Dubuque County Thursday afternoon left one person dead and two others injured. The collision, which occurred around 1 p.m. near Skyline Drive, involved an SUV and a semi-truck. The Iowa State Patrol reports that the SUV failed to stop at a stop sign on Skyline Road, leading to the crash as the semi, traveling north, collided with the vehicle.

The impact caused the SUV to come to a stop in the east ditch, while the semi came to rest in the southbound lanes, blocking traffic. The highway was shut down as authorities worked the scene, with northbound lanes reopening shortly before 5 p.m. Southbound lanes remained closed longer. The intersection of Highway 151 and Skyline Drive is located approximately four miles south of Dubuque, near Monastery Road.

According to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a hospital in Dubuque before being flown to University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and Key West Fire Department all responded to the scene. The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. The name of the deceased will be released by the Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
