Arrest made in Clinton involving theft of valuable wire spools

According to court records, a 42-year-old man from Clinton was taken into custody on Sunday for allegedly attempting to steal spools of wire.

Jay Kostka is currently facing several charges based on the court records. These charges include first-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, conspiring to commit a non-forcible felony, and a serious misdemeanor of trespass with injury or damage over $300.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft from the 27000 block of 283rd Avenue in Princeton around 2:45 a.m. on July 27, as stated in the arrest affidavits.

According to the affidavits, Kostka and his co-defendants worked together to conspire and steal wire and wire spools valued at $15,000 between July 20 and Aug. 2.

As a result of the theft, the victim’s property suffered damage worth $5,500. It is important to note that Kostka and his co-defendants had no legal rights to be on the victim’s property during the incident.

Kostka, who was taken into custody on a warrant, is currently being detained in Scott County Jail with a bond set at $20,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for him on December 3 in Scott County Court.
