A Coralville woman is facing multiple charges after she was discovered administering a patient with nearly six times the prescribed dosage of a medication.
According to court documents, Coralville Police responded to a call at Brown Deer Place, a senior care facility on 1st Avenue, on July 8. The complaint revealed that Sandra Price-Elder, aged 69, was observed with an oral medication syringe containing a dosage six times higher than what was prescribed for the patient.
The criminal complaint does not disclose the specific medication involved. However, investigators discovered that the medication had been ordered in excess of the required amount.
During the interview with investigators, Price-Elder confessed that she started administering a larger dose than prescribed to the patient in late April. She admitted that she intentionally increased the dosage to sedate the patient and make her job more manageable.
According to the criminal complaint, Price-Elder was tasked with providing patient care, including meals, medications, and hygienic needs.
Price-Elder faces charges of Wanton Neglect of a Health Care Facility Resident, Administering Harmful Substances, and Dependent Adult Abuse.
