Fatal Crash on I-25 in Colorado Springs Leads to Major Road Closures
A devastating accident on Interstate 25 near Colorado Springs on November 27 resulted in the death of one individual and significant traffic delays. The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident, which involved a secondary collision following an initial crash.
The first accident occurred around 10:35 a.m. near mile marker 160, involving a Jeep and a Subaru Outback traveling northbound. Both drivers pulled over to the left shoulder to exchange information.
Moments later, a truck traveling at high speed collided with the vehicles involved in the initial crash.
During the secondary collision, one of the drivers was struck by the Subaru and thrown into the southbound lanes of I-25, where he was fatally struck by traffic.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. One southbound driver who may have hit the man remained at the site, but authorities believe additional vehicles may have been involved and continued driving.
Colorado State Patrol is urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward, especially those who may have witnessed the incident or have dashboard camera footage from the area. Witnesses can contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch at 719-544-2424.
The accident prompted significant road closures. As of the latest updates, all northbound lanes remained closed, while two southbound lanes were blocked.
Northbound travelers faced an estimated 67-minute delay, and southbound delays were approximately 24 minutes. Motorists are advised to check the CoTrip Map for updates on traffic conditions and alternative routes.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, including the deceased individual. The investigation remains ongoing.
