On the morning of November 2, a 34-year-old woman was walking in Pueblo’s southbound lanes of Interstate 25 when she was hit by two cars. She died as a result of her injuries.
According to a Pueblo Police Department news release., Pueblo police were called to I-25 just before 7 a.m. on Saturday after receiving a complaint of a pedestrian-involved collision.
The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office later identified the woman as Rebecca Maes, and officers found out during their investigation that she was walking in the southbound lanes of traffic south of 13th Street when a car struck her and knocked her to the ground.
Maes was hit by a second car while on the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene after eventually passing away from her wounds.
Following the collision, southbound I-25 was closed at 13th Street; however, Pueblo police authorities posted on the social networking platform X that the freeway reopened around 10:30 a.m.
According to Pueblo Police Department Community Engagement Manager Bianca Hicks, the Chieftain police do not think that drugs, alcohol, or speeding played a role in the collision.
