A tragic incident took place on Saturday in the Midlands, resulting in the loss of a woman’s life. The unfortunate event occurred when the motorcycle she was riding collided with another vehicle, causing injuries to two other individuals who were subsequently hospitalized. This information was reported by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.
Bridget Gay Baker, a 49-year-old resident of Lee County, tragically lost her life in what has been deemed an unfortunate accident by Coroner David West.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a two-vehicle collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. in Kershaw County, according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler.
Baker was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Lucknow Road, as confirmed by Butler. The motorcycle collided with a 2024 Kia SUV, which was traveling north on Lucknow Road and making a left turn at the intersection with Frost Road.
According to West, Baker tragically lost his life at the scene, as he was not wearing a helmet. It was confirmed that Baker was the sole individual riding the motorcycle at the time of the incident, as stated by Butler.
The SUV driver and a passenger sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to Butler. Unfortunately, no additional details regarding their current conditions have been provided.
There were no other reported injuries.
It is unclear whether either of the individuals in the SUV were wearing seat belts.
Both Butler and West have not indicated whether or not the crash is still under investigation.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, at least 33 individuals have lost their lives on South Carolina roads in 2025 as of January 26. Last year, there were a reported 948 fatalities from crashes in South Carolina, as reported by DPS.
