Police and firefighters were called to downtown Davenport near Brady and 3rd streets in response to a transformer failure.
According to Geoff Greenwood, the Media Relations Manager at MidAmerican Energy Company, an underground transformer experienced a failure. This failure resulted in a powerful electrical flash and a sudden release of oil from beneath a grate.
MidAmerican crews are currently working on repairing the transformer failure, as confirmed by Greenwood. It is worth noting that no customers were impacted by this incident.
According to a media release, the Davenport Fire Department promptly responded to reports of a potential fire near the intersection of Brady and 3rd streets at approximately 11:05 a.m. on Thursday. Scott County Communications had received several reports of a loud explosion and observed black smoke emanating from the ground.
According to Crews, they swiftly ascertained that the smoke originated from an underground utility vault.
According to crews, they mentioned that some of the smoke was starting to dissipate. Nevertheless, they also observed multiple underground areas of fire that were confined to the vault.
