A suspect has been arrested after a double shooting on November 8 in Phoenix left two people injured. The victims, who suffered gunshot wounds, are expected to survive. The shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road, prompting police to respond quickly to the scene.
Phoenix Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Luis Lopez Gutierrez. After the shooting, Lopez fled the scene, and officers later found his vehicle. A pursuit ensued as Lopez traveled southbound on I-10, where Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to pull him over. Lopez refused to stop, leading to a standoff in Tucson near Marana.
During the standoff, Lopez sustained injuries and was initially taken to the hospital, but was later discharged and transported back to Phoenix. He has been booked into jail, facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and misconduct involving weapons.
The incident caused the closure of I-10 in both directions, but the highway has since been reopened.
