A 40-year-old man who is suspected of fatally shooting a woman in a Walmart parking lot in south suburban Lansing on Saturday afternoon is in custody.
According to a Lansing police release, Adebowale A. Oyelekan of Lansing has been charged with the first-degree murder of Thornton resident Victoria L. Olson, age 66.
The backstory: Lansing police responded to a complaint of gunfire around 1:45 p.m. in the 17000 block of Torrence Avenue. When authorities arrived, they discovered Olson bleeding from several gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
Authorities treated Olson immediately before transporting her to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away.
What we don’t know: Authorities are currently examining the circumstances of the shooting. Lansing police, the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators are still looking into the incident.
