Illinois Murder Suspect Arrest Following SWAT Standoff In Clayton County, Sheriff Says

A man who was wanted on murder charges in Illinois has been apprehended following a SWAT standoff in Clayton County on Tuesday night, as reported by the sheriff.

Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen issued a statement to Atlanta News First, informing that murder suspect Matthew Alexander has been apprehended. The arrest took place after a short standoff with the SWAT team in Forest Park.

According to Allen, the Rockford Police Department in Winnebago County, Illinois, which is located approximately 90 miles west of Chicago, is currently seeking Alexander.

The sheriff collaborated with various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI’s Violent Crimes Unit, Forest Park Police Chief Brandon Criss, Forest Park Fire Chief Latosha Clemons, Clayton County Police Chief Kevin Roberts, and Clayton County Fire Chief Tim Sweat. They worked together to ensure a successful outcome, which involved apprehending Alexander without any incident or loss of life.

“This operation highlights our dedication to public safety and the collaboration between law enforcement agencies,” expressed Allen in a statement. “In Clayton County, we will not tolerate violent offenders seeking sanctuary. Our highly skilled teams are fully committed to ensuring that criminals are brought to justice, regardless of where they attempt to conceal themselves.”
