Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms Are Expected In Parts Of Kentucky, Tennessee, And Virginia

Good morning everyone! The Northeast is about to experience an increase in clouds as our next system approaches later this afternoon. Brace yourselves for a rush of mild air before winter makes a strong comeback this weekend. So make sure to enjoy this brief period of mild temperatures while it lasts!

Late Friday into Saturday, a system resembling a clipper will descend, likely developing off the coast. This will result in the emergence of clouds and scattered snow showers on Saturday, accompanied by a drop in temperatures into the 30s, followed by the 20s on Sunday. Expect frigid conditions overnight on both Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of single-digit readings in the interior sections of the Northeast and New England.

Today’s system features a robust cold front that extends from West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, all the way down to Texas. This front is accompanied by heavy showers and thunderstorms, spanning hundreds of miles. Although there are no severe weather watches or warnings at present, there is still a possibility of isolated instances of severe weather.

The regions with the highest risk at the moment appear to be southeast Kentucky, eastern Tennessee, lower West Virginia, and western Virginia. There is also a possibility of this risk extending into North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Keep an eye out for locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, heavy rainfall, and the potential for an isolated tornado.

Here’s the forecast for the NYC Metro area:

In New York City, we are currently basking in the morning sunshine. However, we can expect the clouds to gather as the day progresses, with a chance of rain in the afternoon. As we move into the evening and night, the rain is expected to become heavier, followed by some partial clearing. Today, temperatures will reach the low to mid 50’s.

Expect sunny weather and a steady breeze tomorrow. The temperature will reach the mid-40s at its peak. However, the forecast for Friday becomes more complicated as clouds start to increase. In the afternoon, there will be rain, which may initially be a mix of different forms of precipitation. By Saturday morning, there is a chance of a cold rain mixing with sleet or snow.

A low-pressure system is developing off the coast, albeit a bit delayed and too distant from the shoreline. Nevertheless, it will still have an impact by bringing in some clouds and flurries on Saturday. Expect blustery conditions and temperatures in the low to mid-30s. Overnight, temperatures will drop to the teens, and on Sunday, there won’t be much of a recovery as we can anticipate mid to upper 20s. In fact, Sunday night may even see lows in the range of 15 degrees.
