A decision regarding the extradition of Kimberlee Singler, a woman accused of killing two of her children, could be made early next year. Singler, who fled the United States following a manhunt in late 2023, was apprehended in the United Kingdom and has been awaiting extradition for nearly a year.
Singler, the mother of three, faces charges for the deaths of her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter and for seriously injuring her eldest daughter. Authorities believe she staged the scene to make it look like a violent home invasion. Police initially responded to a reported burglary at the family’s apartment complex on December 19, 2023.
Upon arrival, they discovered the two deceased children and Singler’s injured 11-year-old daughter. Singler had originally claimed that an intruder had attacked the family, but detectives soon determined the burglary story was fabricated. They found no evidence of a break-in and charged Singler after establishing probable cause on December 26.
Singler was arrested in the U.K. on December 30, and after several hearings, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the extradition hearing concluded on December 2, 2024, with a decision expected by January 24, 2025.
Once returned to Colorado, Singler will face multiple serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, criminal attempts of first-degree murder, child abuse, and assault in the first degree.
The extradition process has been delayed by legal procedures, including the right to appeal, as explained by law professor Wadie Said. He noted that human rights concerns could potentially further delay her return. Despite the urgency of the case, the extradition process is expected to take time, potentially lasting up to a year, as Said mentioned in an interview earlier in 2024.
