Colorado Springs Car Theft Ring Involves 12-Year-Old Suspect

Two children in Colorado Springs were apprehended this week on suspicion of committing significant offenses.

On Tuesday, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) made a public announcement that minors had been arrested in connection with a series of car thefts. According to a post on their online blotter page, the investigation into these thefts had commenced in mid-September.

According to the police blotter, detectives have identified two suspects, a 15-year-old male and a 12-year-old male, who were frequently seen together during the incidents of vehicle theft.

The SIU detectives, as part of their investigation, were able to obtain arrest warrants for the 15-year-old, charging him with one count of Motor Vehicle Theft, and the 12-year-old, charging him with two counts of Motor Vehicle Theft.

The Zeb Pike Juvenile Detention facility detained the 15-year-old, while the 12-year-old was released to their family, following instructions from the juvenile center.

Both children involved in the incident have not been publicly identified due to their young age. The exact number of vehicles they are suspected of stealing has not been disclosed at the time of the last update of this article.
