Arizona woman loses $30K in romance scam involving multi-state con artist

A captivating tale unfolds, filled with love, deception, and an alleged con artist, as reported by AZFamily.

“I had the chance to connect with Rob Scotto through a dating site,” shared a Valley woman who prefers to remain anonymous.

He was meant to be the chosen one.

“It was a whirlwind romance, and he made me believe that we had a future together. I was captivated by him,” she reminisced. “I had complete faith in the person he portrayed himself to be.”

During the early stages of their relationship, she stumbled upon his true identity. It turns out that Rob Scotto is actually Robert Giuliano.

He appears on the  New York Department of Correction’s Most Wanted Fugitive list for Attempted Forgery, Grand Larceny, and Identity Theft. As per the website, he is classified as a “multi-state” offender who specifically preys on women through romance scams.

The victim admitted, “I overlooked so many warning signs that are clearly evident now.”

The woman claimed that Giuliano swindled her out of $30,000. She willingly paid for multiple trips, believing his story that he had lost his credit card and would reimburse her.

“He has been promising to pay me back since July, and he has consistently stayed in touch with me every day, expressing his love for me,” she shared.

According to her, Giuliano reached out to her for the last time on Thursday, assuring her that he would repay her. However, she never received any further communication from him.

Scottsdale Police caught him on the same day.

“This is the first time I’ve felt a sense of empowerment in my life,” she exclaimed.

Scottsdale Police received a tip from New York investigators on December 6 regarding Giuliano’s felony warrant and his whereabouts in town.

The police initiated an investigation into the matter and ultimately apprehended the suspect in a hotel lobby. The arrest was made by detectives on December 12th at approximately 1:15 p.m. Following the arrest, the individual was transported to the MCSO County Jail due to a felony warrant.

According to Arizona’s Family, MCSO has confirmed that Giuliano is still in custody.

The New York Department of Corrections is currently in the process of arranging Giuliano’s extradition.

“It’s not about seeking revenge. It’s about ensuring that he is held responsible,” stated the victim.

She expressed a sense of empowerment now that Giuliano has been taken into custody, but she also wants to alert the community about the presence of other individuals similar to Giuliano.

“Don’t ignore the red flags. Trust your instincts and trust other people’s,” she advised.
