A woman in Texas was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday for allegedly attacking her former boyfriend in a shooting incident that resulted in his hospitalization for several weeks. In the wake of the incident, the victim has decided to share his story.
Alexys Pinto, a 23-year-old woman, was taken into custody in September on charges of aggravated assault against a family member. She allegedly shot her then-boyfriend, Elvis Muñoz, in a non-fatal incident.
The details were revealed through the examination of Harris County court records by HuffPost. Pinto’s bond, initially set at $75,000, was reduced to $10,000 by a judge, leading to her release last week.
In an interview with local CBS affiliate KHOU, Muñoz expressed his concerns about the possibility of her wanting to return and cause harm.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by HuffPost, Muñoz, a mechanic, informed the police that he had received a vehicle from a client to work on while he was at home with Pinto on September 5th.
Shortly after the client parked their car in his driveway, Pinto confronted Muñoz. According to Muñoz’s complaint, Pinto was extremely angry and became physically aggressive towards him when he tried to calm her down. He also claimed that Pinto kicked their dog forcefully at one point.
During the argument, Pinto requested that Muñoz take her to a romantic spot where they had previously enjoyed watching the sunset together. Muñoz questioned Pinto several times about her reasons for wanting to go there, but she persisted in her request.
According to Muñoz, he drove them to the area as requested by the police. However, moments after he entered the road, Pinto suddenly ran out of his truck. Muñoz immediately pursued Pinto, calling out for her to return. When he finally caught up to her, she reportedly unleashed a string of profanities at him.
She expressed her disbelief, saying, “You expect me to go deer hunting in this place?” according to the complaint.
Muñoz was left perplexed by Pinto’s statement and sought clarification. Suddenly, a loud gunshot rang out, startling him.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Muñoz exclaimed to ABC affiliate KTRK. “When I glanced down, I was shocked to see blood streaming down my body.”
Muñoz suffered injuries to his hand and chest from a gunshot, as stated in the complaint. He then remembered Pinto holding a black firearm.
Muñoz recounted to the police that he was filled with disbelief and felt the need to escape when Pinto continued firing at him. He shared that he overheard Pinto speaking to someone on the phone, exclaiming, “He shot me.” Muñoz attempted to interject, denying any involvement in the shooting.
Muñoz recounted the terrifying moment when he woke up and found himself staring down the barrel of a gun. He vividly remembers the chilling sight of the person holding the weapon, who seemed to take pleasure in the threatening act.
According to the complaint, Muñoz informed the police that he repeatedly requested Pinto to call an ambulance. In response, Pinto allegedly said, “I didn’t mean to do you like this, it was supposed to be quick!”
During an interview with NBC affiliate KPRC, Muñoz revealed that he made every effort to persuade Pinto to seek assistance. He even went as far as assuring him that he would claim ignorance about the identity of the shooter if necessary.
“I told her that I loved her and that I still wanted to be with her. I expressed my desire to continue growing together, to have children together, and tried my best to get through to her, hoping she would understand and help me,” Muñoz recounted to KPRC. “I pleaded with her, urging her to call an ambulance, repeating the words over and over again.”
The pair then returned to Muñoz’s truck and headed to a gas station in the vicinity, as stated in the complaint. The complaint references surveillance footage that captured Pinto quickly exiting the vehicle and engaging in conversation with the store clerk, while Muñoz remained in the passenger seat, clutching his abdomen.
Muñoz endured a series of surgeries and spent over a month in the hospital after the attack, as stated in a fundraiser initiated by his sister.
In the GoFundMe, the sister expressed her thoughts on the daily challenges that we encounter.
In an interview with KPRC, Muñoz expressed his confusion as to why Pinto shot him. However, he took a moment to reflect on his experiences during their three-year relationship and how he was treated.
“I have always been dedicated to taking care of her to the best of my ability. There were times when I would even go without eating just so she could have a satisfying meal,” Muñoz shared with the outlet. “She has a tendency to become jealous and controlling, often isolating me from my loved ones. She also tends to hold onto grudges.”
According to court records, Pinto was arrested by the police on September 17th, and the judge subsequently granted Muñoz a protective order. However, Pinto’s attorney, who is listed as their legal representative, has not yet responded to an email from HuffPost regarding the allegation.
