3 Dead And 8 Injured In Late Night Shooting On Mississippi Trail Ride

According to authorities, a late-night shooting at a trail ride in Holmes County left three people dead and eight injured.

The incident happened after midnight Saturday on Highway 17 North, following Holmes County Consolidated Schools’ homecoming celebrations, according to Holmes County Sheriff Willie March.

According to Sheriff March, an altercation among a group of young males during the trail ride turned into shooting. The victims were identified:

  • Martel Gibson, 25, of Durant
  • Shundra Chestnut, 19, of Kosciusko
  • John Jenkins, 19, of Durant

The eight injured people received treatment at nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not been revealed.

Law enforcement is actively hunting for suspects in the incident. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is aiding the investigation, but no further developments will be available until Monday.

Holmes County is located roughly 70 miles north of Jackson, the state capital. Authorities are requesting anyone with information to come forward while the investigation is ongoing.
