In a daring incident that took place on Wednesday morning, a check-cashing business in north Houston became the target of a robbery. As a result, a woman who was present at the scene is currently undergoing surgery, while two suspects have been apprehended and are now in custody.
At approximately 11 a.m., the Houston Police Department reported that the victim had just exited PLS Check Cashers located on Aldine Bender near Airline Road.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), a woman in her 20s was approached by a man while walking to her car. The man unexpectedly emerged from a vehicle parked a few spots away and demanded the money she was holding.
The police were called by another customer after they drove off, according to HPD.
Detectives successfully located and apprehended both suspects several miles away, after tracking down the car.
The woman was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.
According to crime data from HPD, there have been 14 incidents within a quarter-mile radius in the last month, including seven assaults.
“Be mindful of the vehicles present in the parking lot and whether there are any individuals observing your arrival,” advised HPD Detective Samuel Spurlock. “If you have a suspicion that you are being followed when you leave, try taking unconventional routes and see if anyone follows your every turn.”
