Lyndsey Jean Wilcox is set to be sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to second-degree assault in connection with the death of Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, a 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at Batavia Downs casino in March when Sgt. Sanfratello attempted to arrest Wilcox. Police say he had previously escorted Wilcox and Michael Elmore out of the casino for causing a disturbance.
Wilcox and Elmore reportedly returned to the scene, where Elmore attacked Sgt. Sanfratello with a metal chain, striking him on the head. Sgt. Sanfratello became unresponsive and tragically died at the scene.
Michael Elmore has already been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter and obstructing governmental administration. Wilcox’s sentencing will determine her role and accountability in the sergeant’s death.
