A woman is now in custody after a series of incidents that culminated in a crash involving a stolen car in Colorado Springs on Monday morning.
The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Brookside Street near Cascade Avenue, not far from Ivywild School. When authorities arrived, they found several police vehicles at the scene with officers holding their guns drawn.
A Colorado Springs Police Lieutenant confirmed that the individual who reported the crash also informed authorities that the suspect was setting items on fire on the property.
Police later identified the crashed vehicle as stolen and connected it to a series of crimes, including an aggravated robbery. The driver of the stolen car was identified as 36-year-old Elizabeth Walters, the suspect in the robbery.
Earlier that morning, Walters had evaded capture around 1 a.m. while driving the stolen car, striking and injuring two pedestrians in the process. She was also allegedly carrying a firearm during that incident, and the police pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
After the crash on Brookside, officers attempted to arrest Walters, but she attempted to flee. Following several attempts to stop her, K9 Zev was deployed and successfully apprehended Walters.
She was treated for minor injuries sustained during the arrest and was taken to the El Paso County Jail, where she faces multiple felony charges related to the stolen vehicle, the robbery, and eluding police.
