A woman convicted of homicide in Nebraska was apprehended in Missouri by ICE after her immigration status came under scrutiny.
Lorena Lara-Diaz, a 40-year-old resident of Marshall, Missouri, has been arrested in connection with a homicide warrant from Nebraska, according to court records filed in the Pettis County Circuit Court on Tuesday, March 4th.
According to a probable cause statement filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troopers, along with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, went to Lara-Diaz’s workplace in Sedalia at around 11:40 a.m. During the operation, she was apprehended based on an active felony warrant for a probation violation, which stemmed from an original charge of homicide.
According to the Douglas County, Nebraska, Sheriff’s Office, Lara-Diaz was found guilty of motor vehicle homicide on March 23, 2023, in relation to the tragic death of Gary Mangiameli. However, in October 2024, she was briefly apprehended by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to her undocumented status.
After Lara-Diaz was released, she severed ties with her probation officer and fled to Missouri, prompting law enforcement officials to issue an arrest warrant.
According to court records, a Pettis County judge signed an extradition order on Wednesday. As of Thursday, she is still in custody in Missouri. Additionally, she is currently appealing her legal status with Immigrations and Customs.
