Lora Flores, aged 40, admitted her guilt last month to a charge of manslaughter in connection with the tragic death of Korey Wilson, also 40, as per records available online.
According to the probable cause statement obtained by Law&Crime, the events unfolded on April 28, 2023. At 2:37 p.m., Flores made a 911 call to the Tempe police, reporting a physical altercation with her boyfriend of seven years and claiming that she had shot him.
“I simply shot him and left,” Flores exclaimed in the call while driving away from the residence, according to the document.
Flores admitted to the 911 dispatcher that she had thrown her gun off the side of the road, but she couldn’t provide any details about its current whereabouts.
During the call, Flores expressed her need to contact her attorney, mentioning that she had already revealed a significant amount of information. She also stated that the victim had physically assaulted her by choking her before the call abruptly ended.
As investigators examined the crime scene, they made several significant discoveries. Not only did they find the victim lying nearby, but they also stumbled upon a bullet hole in a mirror hanging on the wall in the hallway. The kitchen yielded more evidence in the form of a fired and unfired cartridge, while a bullet strike on the living room wall further pointed to the violent nature of the incident. Additionally, near the front door and the hallway leading to the victim, detectives uncovered another set of fired and unfired cartridges, adding to the growing list of clues.
Police were able to locate Flores by pinging her phone and subsequently apprehended her at her brother’s residence in Chandler, which is approximately 14 miles southeast of Tempe.
Flores had a few old bruises on her arms and wrists, but she was not questioned about their origin after expressing her desire to consult with her attorney. According to the probable cause statement, there was an old healing wound on Flores’ chest that had formed a scab, but no recent injuries were observed.
According to the document, it was later discovered by the police that Flores had sent text messages to her brother and sister-in-law around noon on that day. In the messages, she asked them to pick up her child from school as she had been drinking.
According to a friend of the victim, Flores had been abusive towards Wilson, who had been seeking an escape from the relationship with Flores.
The victim’s brother provided more details about it on GoFundMe.
According to the author, the incident involved the woman shooting the man and leaving him to die. The purpose of starting the Gofundme campaign is to raise awareness about male victims of domestic violence and abuse. The author emphasizes that domestic violence can occur in various forms and not just limited to men physically abusing women. In the case of Korey, there were warning signs, but due to societal stereotypes, domestic abuse against men is often overlooked. The author describes Korey’s relationship as one where he was more dominant in conversations while his girlfriend remained in the background.
The sentencing for Flores is scheduled for February 28th.
