A man from Wisconsin has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for his involvement in a significant drug trafficking operation.
Lewis, a 40-year-old resident of Wausau, has been convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, along with possession of firearms as a felon. As a result, he has been sentenced to 150 months in prison.
Lewis, a key figure, has been recognized as one of the prominent leaders of a drug trafficking organization that operates in Wausau. This organization is known for its widespread distribution of significant quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine. The group is involved in bringing these drugs into the state, often utilizing methods such as mail delivery to carry out their illicit activities.
In 2022, U.S. Postal Inspectors discovered two packages containing around 10 pounds of methamphetamine during their interception. These packages were being shipped from California to Lewis’s apartment. Following this discovery, a search was conducted at Lewis’s residence in 2023, which led to the seizure of three handguns, ammunition, cash, and cocaine.
Despite having previous felony convictions, Lewis’s DNA was discovered on all three firearms, indicating that he was in possession of them, which is illegal.
During the sentencing, Judge Conley emphasized the significant role played by Lewis as a leader in a drug trafficking organization that dealt with substantial amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Conley concluded that it was crucial to impose a substantial sentence on Lewis in order to safeguard the public.
In addition, this drug trafficking organization has brought charges against eight other individuals. Some of them have already been sentenced or have pleaded guilty and are now awaiting sentencing.
This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program by the Department of Justice that aims to reduce violent crime. The FBI’s Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) conducted the investigation.
