A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Montgomery County, Howard County, Frederick County, Loudoun County, DC, Prince George’s County, and other surrounding areas. The advisory will be in effect from 9pm Wednesday until 10am Thursday. Additionally, an Ice Storm Warning has been issued for Washington County, located further north.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), we can expect a mix of precipitation. There may be up to one inch of sleet accumulation and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation from 9 PM Wednesday to 10 AM Thursday.
Expect slippery road conditions that could impact the Thursday morning commute. Starting Wednesday evening, there will be a mixture of light freezing rain, sleet, and snow. As the night progresses, the precipitation will mainly turn into steady freezing rain. However, temperatures are expected to rise on Thursday morning, causing the freezing rain to transition into regular rain.
