Arizona is seeing an increase in whooping cough and flu cases.
In Arizona, whooping cough can be fatal for youngsters, while influenza kills over 800 people annually. The spike in flu cases has occurred early this year, according to ValleyWise emergency physician Frank LoVecchio.
Many individuals were taken aback by it, according to LoVecchio. “It’s likely that a lot of people got together in September, which caused a huge spike in October.”
According to him, those who are elderly, pregnant, or have diabetes are at-risk groups and should get medical help right once if they get the flu.
“That is because there are some treatments we can give for the flu that work best if started early,” LoVecchio stated.
Additionally, the state has experienced an increase in cases of the highly contagious respiratory virus known as whooping cough, or pertussis. Over 560 cases have been documented so far this year. Since 2015, Arizona has not had a higher amount.
