USCIS Tightens Green Card Requirements: Medical Reports Now Mandatory with Applications

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has introduced new requirements for Green Card applicants, making it mandatory to submit medical examination and immunization records alongside Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

Previously, applicants could file Form I-485 without these medical reports and provide them later upon request. However, under the new rule, applications lacking Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, signed by an authorized civil surgeon, will be outright rejected.

This change eliminates the option to correct omissions or provide the medical form at a later stage, streamlining the application process and reducing delays. Additionally, USCIS clarified that applicants for naturalization must demonstrate they were lawfully admitted or adjusted to permanent resident status under the immigration laws in effect at the time of their admission.

This verification applies to the initial admission or adjustment, regardless of any subsequent reentries into the U.S. These updates emphasize the importance of thorough preparation and compliance with legal and medical requirements, ensuring applicants submit complete and accurate documentation from the outset.
