The Sherman, Texas, Police Department has identified an 8-year-old girl from Oklahoma who went missing following an accident in a flooded region.
The police chief says that the call regarding a car being washed away by floodwaters came in around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24. Rescuers were able to save four of the six individuals in the automobile, including a 5-year-old daughter. Rescuers discovered the 5-year-old child underwater, and she survived after receiving treatment on the way to the hospital.
Sherman Police recognized Clara Robinson, the missing 8-year-old girl, during a news conference on Friday morning. On Friday, police also revealed the death of Clara’s father, Will Robinson, in the collision. The Deputy Chief of Operations for Sherman Fire and Rescue stated that Will was attempting to save Clara. According to reports, the father held his daughter in his arms shortly after the accident.
The four family members who survived are recovering at home.
Teams from various agencies are combing a 10-mile length of waterways near where the tragedy occurred. Police are utilizing drones and helicopters to help with the hunt on Friday. They use two types of canines in their search: those that track living persons and those that track remains.
Sherman Police have warned individuals about scammers who falsely claim to be raising money for the Robinsons, but do not intend to give the money to them.
Will Robinson worked as a coach for the Durant Public School District, according to a Facebook post. The message contains a statement from Durant’s superintendent and sends prayers to the Robinson family and rescuers looking for Clara. The superintendent also guarantees parents that counselors will be accessible to assist pupils when they return from holiday break.

Authorities in Texas are searching for an 8-year-old girl from Oklahoma who was washed away by floodwaters on Tuesday following a car accident.
Police in Sherman, Texas, say the girl and her father were driving down US Highway 75 when they went into a flooded ditch about 17 miles south of the Oklahoma state line.
Police say they’ve checked seven miles of waterways in the region, but they’re now turning their attention to the entire county.
Weather conditions could delay the search, according to authorities.
“Water levels were so high, all we were able to deploy was a few kayaks,” Sherman police Lt. Sam Boyle said. “As the water levels went down … We were able to put some teams into the creek beds … We also have K-9 teams out there assisting with the search.”
Police suspect the missing girl wore a black jacket or pink pajamas.
Police say they’ll resume their search at 7 a.m. on Friday.
