The Davenport Fire Department has shared a news release regarding the fire.

The Davenport Fire Department swiftly reacted to a fire alarm at the school, dispatching two apparatus along with a command vehicle and a team of seven experienced personnel. Upon arriving at the scene, the first units observed light smoke in the vicinity of the building and promptly commenced an investigation.

Their efforts led them to discover a significant amount of heavy smoke emanating from a second-floor window. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the district chief immediately called for reinforcements, resulting in the arrival of three more apparatus, another command vehicle, and a team of ten additional personnel.

Firefighters swiftly made their way to the second floor, where they were confronted with thick smoke and intense heat engulfing one of the classrooms. With utmost efficiency, they managed to extinguish the fire before proceeding to ventilate the area by opening the windows, allowing the trapped smoke and heat to dissipate from the building.

After an intensive search, firefighters confirmed that there were no individuals inside the building. The breaker panel successfully isolated the utilities to the classroom, ensuring that the rest of the building maintained power. To ensure the safety of the premises, fire crews diligently remained on site for a little over two hours, thoroughly examining for any concealed fire and providing ventilation. Unfortunately, the classroom endured significant damage from the fire and smoke, while the second-floor halls were minimally affected, with only minor smoke staining.

There were no reported injuries.

Earlier, Davenport District Fire Chief Scott Farnsworth reported that a fire occurred at Madison Elementary School. The fire was contained within a classroom that faced Perry Street.

According to Farnsworth, the fire broke out at around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. The second-floor room sustained some damage, and there was smoke throughout the entire second floor.

The firefighters remained at the scene for a considerable amount of time in order to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
