Two children who were reported missing from Ohio in October have been located in Reykjavik, Iceland.
According to a statement by the U.S. Marshals, two children, aged 8 and 9, from Canton, were reported missing in October by a family member. It was reported that the children’s mother had stopped taking her mental health medication, left her apartment, and the children had stopped going to school.
The Icelandic Police successfully tracked down the missing children and their mother in a series of locations, starting from Denver, Colorado, then London, and finally a remote fishing village in Iceland. The apprehension took place in a hotel, where they were found.
“The collaboration of effort in this case cannot be overstated,” emphasized U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. He acknowledged the challenging nature of responding to and recovering these children from overseas, emphasizing the difficulty of the task. Elliott commended the exceptional work of the investigators involved, highlighting their outstanding performance. He expressed gratitude for the invaluable support of the dedicated and resilient law enforcement partners, crediting them for their instrumental role in successfully bringing these children back home.”
The Marshals Service took custody of the children and placed them under the care of social services until a family member could retrieve them. The mother, on the other hand, was admitted to a hospital and will remain there until she recovers enough to travel back to the U.S., as stated by the Marshals Service.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offered financial assistance to bring the children back to their families in the United States and facilitate their safe return home.
