The New Mexico State Police released a report stating that on January 10, 2025, their Albuquerque Crime Suppression Agents, along with members from the NMSP Special Operations and Uniform Bureaus, discovered a vehicle registered to an individual with a felony warrant for his arrest for receiving and transferring a stolen motor vehicle.
According to the information provided, Crime Suppression Agents discreetly trailed the person until they reached the vicinity of Montgomery and Wyoming. At that point, the individual entered a Michael’s craft store. Officers formulated a strategy to apprehend the person as they exited the store. However, the individual disregarded the officers’ instructions and tried to escape by getting into their vehicle. Realizing that fleeing by car was not an option, the individual then attempted to flee on foot. Subsequently, law enforcement officers caught up to the individual and identified them as Steven Stewart, a 36-year-old.
Agents found a firearm during the inventory of Stewart’s vehicle and decided to seal the vehicle for a search warrant. The search warrant was later granted and carried out, resulting in the discovery of two firearms.
Stewart was taken into custody due to an active warrant and faced charges of resisting and evading arrest. Additionally, he was charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Stewart was a convicted felon. The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) is collaborating with federal authorities to pursue federal prosecution against Stewart for unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon.
Later that evening, around 9:00 p.m., the Albuquerque Crime Suppression Agents of the New Mexico State Police, along with members from the NMSP Special Operations and Uniform Bureaus, were alerted by the Albuquerque Police Department about a person at the Albuquerque Downs Casino who had a stolen motor vehicle in their possession.
NMSP came up with a plan to apprehend the person after gathering this information. As the person approached the stolen vehicle, NMSP Agents issued commands to the suspect, who then fled on foot. Within moments, the suspect was captured and identified as Dale Hinds, a 53-year-old individual.
Hinds faced charges of resisting and evading arrest, along with receiving and transferring a stolen motor vehicle.
Both Stewart and Hinds were taken into custody and later placed in the Metropolitan Detention Center.
