In Arizona, authorities have arrested three individuals who are believed to be connected to the tragic death of a kind-hearted Samaritan.

Authorities have reported that Paul Clifford, 53, was discovered deceased near a vehicle that was still emitting smoke on Christmas Eve.

The suspects are believed to have visited Paul Clifford’s residence and asked for assistance with their car troubles. His family became concerned and reported him missing after not hearing from him.

Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) Homicide Detectives discovered information indicating that the suspects might be in close proximity to Benson Highway, near Country Club Rd.

The PCSD Fugitive Investigations Unit (FIU) initiated a search for the vehicle and suspects. With the assistance of various investigative and support units of PCSD, they successfully located the suspects.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, a search warrant was obtained by PCSD Homicide Detectives for the property. The Pima Regional SWAT Team then executed the warrant at the specified location. Upon their arrival, the suspects barricaded themselves inside the residence. However, they eventually contacted 9-1-1 to initiate negotiations for their surrender. Subsequently, all three suspects peacefully exited the residence and were apprehended without any further incidents.

Three individuals, namely Elmer Smith, aged 19, Jack Upchurch, aged 40, and Wendy Scott, aged 16, have been incarcerated at the Pima County Adult Detention Center. They have been detained on the grounds of felony arrest warrants.

The investigation is currently underway, and there may be additional charges in the future.
