An Alberta Clipper is expected to sweep through from west to east on Christmas Eve, bringing up to a half-foot of snow to parts of the Northeast.
Monday, December 23 will bring mostly sunny skies with temperatures hovering around freezing. However, as the day progresses, clouds will start to increase in anticipation of an approaching system.
Expect precipitation, which includes snow, sleet, and rain, to occur from approximately 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The skies on Tuesday, December 24, will be mostly cloudy.
In the first image above from AccuWeather, it is anticipated that heavier accumulations of snow will occur in northern and inland areas. Lighter blue zones can expect around 1 to 3 inches of snow.
Upstate New York and northern New England can expect to see between 3 to 6 inches of snow accumulation, particularly in the darker blue areas.
The National Weather Service predicts that the upcoming light snowfall will add to the existing snowpack, making it more probable to have a white Christmas.
On Christmas Eve, the AccuWeather map indicates a mixture of rain and snow in the areas highlighted in pink, while regions depicted in blue are expected to receive snowfall.
Later in the day, the temperature is expected to reach approximately 40 degrees, accompanied by partly cloudy skies on Christmas Eve night.
Christmas Day, which falls on Wednesday, December 25, is expected to bring mostly sunny skies. Following this, Thursday, December 26, will see a forecast of partly sunny weather and temperatures that are in line with the season.
