Daniel Schwarz, a Texas dad, is now facing the consequences of his actions. In 2020, the 48-year-old and his wife Ashley caused the death of their adopted daughter, Jaylin. Five years later, justice is finally served.
According to a Facebook post by the Ector County District Attorney, Schwarz was sentenced to 18 years in prison last week. The Texas father pled guilty to manslaughter after his daughter died in a terrible manner. Jaylin died at the age of eight as a result of Mr. Schwarz’s and his wife’s mistreatment of her.
While Daniel will serve over two decades in prison, his wife has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice found her guilty of capital murder. The Ector County District Attorney attributed the case’s outcome to the Odessa police’s hard work.
The Schwarzs’ case began on August 29, 2020, when police attended to a medical emergency at their home. When Odessa police arrived at the couple’s home, they discovered their daughter had died. Further inquiries into the case found that the 8-year-old had been subjected to harsh punishment.
The pair forced Jaylin to bounce on a trampoline outside in the scorching heat, with temperatures estimated at 110 degrees. The duo made Jaylin’s condition worse by ensuring she had nothing to eat or drink while bouncing on the trampoline for an extended period of time.
Jaylin died of dehydration, according to the autopsy, and her death was classified as a homicide.
Internet Users Want A Heavier Jail Sentence For Daniel Schwarz
Unfortunately, Daniel Schwarz’s sentence has only caused outrage among internet users. Many people felt that the jail sentence was insufficient in light of the gravity of the offense. One person shared their concern by saying, “This is unacceptable.” He mistreated the child. He should have earned life without parole.”
Another netizen asked, “Why didn’t he get a life sentence without parole?” More Facebook users complained that the Texas father’s sentence was unfair. The netizens pointed out that persons charged with drugs face heavier terms, so it was unfair that a murder charge resulted in only an 18-year sentence.
A fourth contributor pointed out weaknesses in the criminal justice system. “Why do people who murder others receive such lenient sentences? They had done something permanent; why allow parole?” they inquired.
Another commenter expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of justice, citing the father’s involvement in the child’s death. The commenter also proposed that the father be sentenced to life in jail, the same punishment as Jaylin received.
According to People Magazine, the young girl’s obituary characterized her as “full of life.” She enjoyed horseback riding, ice skating, and all things outside. Her other interests are animals, history, and science. May she rest peacefully.
