A 16-year-old suspect has been taken into custody by Mesa police following a fatal shooting incident that occurred on December 18th.
Officers were called to the scene following reports of a shooting at a trailer park near McKellips Road and Center Street. According to witnesses, a male individual fired several rounds at the victim, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a green truck.
The suspect fled the scene with a rifle, then quickly returned and made off with the victim still in the vehicle.
The abandoned truck was later discovered by officers on Quenton Drive near Val Vista Drive and McDowell Road.
On December 27, Mesa police successfully identified and apprehended the suspect responsible for the tragic shooting. Authorities confirmed that the individual behind this heinous act was a 16-year-old teenager. The young suspect was found and taken into custody at an apartment, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
According to the police, the teenager reportedly confessed to being at the scene and holding the weapon responsible for the victim’s death.
The teenager is facing the following charges:

- armed robbery
- abandonment of a dead body
- tampering with evidence
