According to reports, authorities in Thailand have arrested two teenagers in connection with a blast at an annual festival near the border with Myanmar. The attack, which was allegedly targeting a “rival gangster,” resulted in the deaths of three people and left dozens more injured.
According to the police, chaos erupted at the Red Cross Doi Loyfa fair on Friday night when a grenade was thrown near the dance stage. As people frantically sought safety, thousands who were in attendance were left in a state of panic and fear.
The publication reported that two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were apprehended.
The explosion claimed the lives of two individuals on the spot, with another individual succumbing to their injuries at the hospital. Additionally, the incident left at least 48 people wounded.
According to Al Jazeera, one of the individuals who was taken into custody was a member of the Karen National Union, a rebel organization in Myanmar that is advocating for greater autonomy.
According to the report, the police stated that one of the suspects hurled the bomb after encountering a “rival gangster” with whom he had previously engaged in a fight.
According to the Bangkok Post, the Thai national named Jorithu, who had previous drug offense arrests, confessed to carrying an explosive in a shoulder bag. His intention was to use it to target a rival gang.
