A man from Milwaukee was taken into custody in Shelby County, Kentucky, in the early hours of Friday. He has been charged with a murder that the police claim occurred a few hours earlier in Springfield, Kentucky.
The Springfield Police Department sought help from the Kentucky State Police in the aftermath of a double shooting on Claybrooke Avenue early Friday morning.
The KSP investigation uncovered that Roosevelt Davis III, aged 23, unlawfully entered the residence and fired shots at two individuals: Kadesha Burch, 31, and a 52-year-old woman from Springfield. Burch, who is identified as Davis’ common-law wife according to the arrest citation, was discovered deceased by troopers within the house. The other victim sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was subsequently taken to a hospital in Lexington for treatment, as reported by the police.
“Once the plate came back, dispatch was quick to let us know that he had an active warrant out of Wisconsin,” Shelbyville Police Chief Bruce Gentry said Friday.
As backup, more officers from the Simpsonville Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrived and arrested Davis. The KSP then intervened and took Davis into custody. He is accused of murder and first-degree burglary.
Gentry stated that Davis is actually charged with shooting two people, the second of whom was in surgery in Lexington as of Friday afternoon.
