A South Carolina woman was detained during a high-speed chase that began in Floyd County and ended in Pike County.
On Friday, February 28, police claimed they responded to a complaint about a white Honda Pilot traveling at high speeds, into oncoming traffic, and in an explicitly unsafe manner.
Police say they saw Stephanie McGuire’s vehicle heading into oncoming traffic and confirmed that she was going nearly 100 mph before attempting to stop her.
After officers attempted a traffic stop, they stated the car fled southbound on U.S. 23 toward the Pike County line.
The pursuit was temporarily halted when the car reached Coal Run, but it resumed when McGuire arrived at the Buckley’s Creek crossing of U.S. 119.
According to police, the vehicle then turned right onto Cassidy Boulevard and collided with a stopped vehicle.
McGuire was sent to Pikeville Medical Center and then Highlands Regional ARH Psychiatric Hospital for additional evaluation.
She was finally transported to the Floyd County Detention Center.
McGuire is facing many accusations, including running or dodging police.
