South Carolina Convicted Killer Heads To Trial Following Lawsuit Filed By Brittanee Drexel’s Mother

The civil trial in South Carolina regarding the man convicted of killing Brittanee Drexel is scheduled to commence on Monday.

In January 2023, Dawn Conley, Drexel’s mother, filed a lawsuit against Raymond Moody, the convicted killer of her daughter. The trial revolves around this lawsuit.

Moody is expected to appear in court as the proceedings commence, according to a transportation order filed in Georgetown County. The order also specifies that the South Carolina Department of Corrections will be responsible for transporting Moody to the county’s judicial center.

Drexel, who originally hailed from New York, disappeared on April 25, 2009, during her vacation in Myrtle Beach.

In October 2022, Moody admitted to law enforcement authorities that he had abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered Drexel. As a result, he was given a life sentence in prison.

Conley has filed a lawsuit against Moody, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress and outrage.

According to the lawsuit, Moody intentionally caused emotional distress to Conley and deprived her of the ongoing love and affection that a child gives to a parent.

“There is likely no greater sense of loss than that of a parent who has lost a child, such that the murder of a child is such extreme and outrageous conduct that it exceeds all bounds of decency,” the lawsuit states.

According to the documents, Drexel’s vanishing received widespread attention across the country, and Moody was aware or should have been aware of the impact his actions had on Conley.

Conley’s lawsuit asserts that she deserves compensation for the various damages she has suffered. These damages include the actual costs of her medical bills, as well as special damages, consequential damages, and punitive damages. Additionally, Conley is seeking compensation for the loss of enjoyment in her life, as well as the pain, suffering, and mental anguish she has endured.

Conley insisted on having a trial by jury for the case.

Meanwhile, Angel Vause, Moody’s girlfriend, has recently been sentenced for lying to the FBI about the case.

Conley has also publicly urged for additional charges to be filed against Vause in connection with her daughter’s tragic passing.
