South And North Carolina: Strong Winds, Fire Danger And Light Snow Expected Friday Morning

A powerful cold front will bring gusty gusts and light rain to sections of North and South Carolina today and tonight, with a Wind Advisory in effect for the North Carolina mountains.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg forecasts wind gusts of 35-50 mph across the mountains, potentially resulting in felled trees and power outages. Furthermore, the combination of dry air and strong winds may raise the region’s fire risk.

Snow is also possible in the far western North Carolina mountains along the Tennessee border, with higher elevations predicted to get 1–2 inches, particularly near Newland and Burnsville. Asheville and the neighboring areas may get a dusting of snow.

Residents should prepare for severe winds by securing loose objects and using caution on the roads, especially in elevated places. Those in the mountains should be wary of shifting weather conditions, especially if traveling overnight. The advisory will remain in effect until early Friday morning.
