Winter weather has made its way to northern Arizona, resulting in the cancellation of classes for the Flagstaff Unified School District and other schools.
Snowfall has commenced in the High Country, resulting in the implementation of multiple traffic restrictions. The weather is predicted to escalate as the day progresses due to the arrival of the initial storm.
As snowflakes fell steadily from the sky, they swiftly blanketed the roadways in Flagstaff. This resulted in slower traffic as drivers navigated their way through the wintry conditions.
State Route 64, located further north, experienced a temporary closure along a section of the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. However, it has now been reopened. To ensure visitor safety and convenience, officials at the Grand Canyon National Park advise postponing any trips until Saturday, when the winter weather is projected to leave the area.
A powerful storm system is currently making its way through Arizona on Thursday, with the potential to deliver a significant amount of snowfall to Flagstaff and surrounding regions. Meteorologists predict that this storm could bring up to eight inches of snow, creating potentially hazardous conditions for residents and travelers.
Several districts, including Flagstaff Unified, have decided to cancel schools in areas such as Flagstaff and Williams. For the latest updates on school closures, please refer to the list provided here.
A second storm is heading towards Arizona, and as a result, a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect at 11 p.m.
