A Houston couple has accused a realtor of attempting to persuade them to take out substantial loans for construction that exceeded the actual cost of the work.
Sali Rabah, a 33-year-old individual, is facing charges for allegedly deceiving an elderly couple into obtaining six loans from five different lenders. These loans amounted to a staggering total of over $287,000.
Rabah has been taken into custody and is currently facing serious charges. Specifically, Rabah is being accused of committing theft aggregate, which is a first-degree felony, as well as exploitation of an elderly person, which is a third-degree felony. According to the allegations, these crimes took place between August and October of 2022.
During the court proceedings, it came to light that Rabah, an Israeli citizen, was purportedly the primary contractor for all six loans. The court records indicated that the market value of the couple’s residence amounted to $170,134, while an alternate evaluation revealed that the actual cost of the renovations should have been $58,836.68.
Officials claim that there is video evidence indicating that Rabah coached and guided the victims to agree to the loan terms.
During the probable cause court hearing, the judge determined a bond of $30,000 for the theft charge and $20,000 for the exploitation charge.
