Today, we can expect our weather to remain foggy and gloomy. However, there is some good news as we continue to experience a gradual warming trend. In eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, temperatures will reach the mid to upper 40s. Alongside the mist and thicker pockets of fog, we can also anticipate sporadic rain showers throughout the day, adding a touch of moisture to the area.
The scattered rain is expected to taper off later tonight, but dense fog will persist overnight and into Saturday morning for many areas, particularly in far eastern Nebraska, western Iowa, and northwest Missouri. Additionally, temperatures will slightly drop on Saturday morning, reaching the low 30s.
The fog and clouds from earlier will gradually dissipate on Saturday, allowing the sun to make an appearance by the afternoon. The temperatures will also rise, with Omaha reaching the upper 40s. Western neighborhoods of the metro area will experience even warmer temperatures, reaching the low 50s thanks to the early sunshine. However, some areas in southwest Iowa may remain slightly cooler due to lingering fog.
Sunday will bring abundant sunshine, allowing everyone to bask in its warm glow. As the day progresses, temperatures will rise steadily, bringing us closer to the delightful 50 degrees mark in the afternoon.
Next week, the Heartland can expect another low-pressure system to pass through, bringing with it the chance of rain and snow. Although many areas will start Monday dry, there may be scattered rain showers during the morning commute. The likelihood of rain will increase in the afternoon, accompanied by breezy conditions and temperatures reaching the mid-40s. As temperatures drop on Monday night, the remaining rain could transition into snow. Currently, it appears that most areas will receive less than an inch of snow, but we will provide further updates as we gain more certainty regarding temperatures and the system’s precise path.
Tuesday will bring breezy conditions as colder weather arrives following the system that brought the wintry mix on Monday. Expect highs in the low 30s, and the day will be mostly cloudy as we bid farewell to 2024.
Wednesday morning will start off the new year with temperatures in the low 20s, slightly higher than the average. As the day progresses, expect some sunshine and temperatures reaching the low 30s in the afternoon.
The weather for Thursday is expected to be slightly colder, with temperatures in the upper 20s. There will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day.
On Friday, the weather is expected to be cloudy and foggy, with spotty rain throughout the day. The high temperature is predicted to reach 47 degrees.
On Friday night, the weather will be partly cloudy with foggy areas. The temperature will drop to a low of 32 degrees.
