A man is currently in custody after allegedly traveling 1,200 miles to Virginia to meet a 15-year-old he had connected with on social media, as reported by the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).
On January 25, around 3 p.m., the police received a report of a solicitation of a minor in the 2000 block of Blue Ridge Court, near Reston. A concerned father contacted the authorities after discovering Trent Fair, a 30-year-old individual, with his 15-year-old child.
During the inquiry, detectives with the Child Exploitation Unit discovered that the Minnesota man contacted the youngster on TikTok and flew to Virginia to “engage in illicit acts.”
Fair was arrested and charged with four charges of soliciting a minor, five counts of contributing to a minor’s delinquency, and producing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The Fairfax County Adult Detention Center is holding him without bond.
The Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division dispatched professionals, according to FCPD, to make sure the victim received the required resources and assistance.
“Parents are urged to closely monitor their children’s online activities and use available security settings to prevent the use of inappropriate sites or platforms. Children should be encouraged to report any person engaging in inappropriate conversations or trying to coerce them into providing sexually explicit images of themselves,” FCPD said in a release.
