According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, a drug courier has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison after being found guilty of smuggling fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin.
Tomas Gamez-Robles, aged 25, received his sentence on December 30th, following his admission of guilt to several felony charges, according to prosecutors.
He admitted guilt for attempting to transport a narcotic drug for sale, operating an illegal enterprise, and possessing a deadly weapon in connection with a drug felony.
He received his sentence as a result of being arrested in Pima County on March 5, 2024.
According to prosecutors, he was caught attempting to transport 1.429 pounds of fentanyl pills with the intention of selling them for cash.
Authorities discovered that he was in possession of approximately 0.128 pounds of methamphetamine during the time of his arrest.
In addition, he also possessed a Palmetto State Armory Dagger, which was a 9mm firearm.
According to court documents, investigators discovered that he was involved in a criminal organization that trafficked not only fentanyl and methamphetamine but also heroin.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes aims to use this sentencing as a cautionary tale for anyone considering a career as a drug courier in the state of Arizona.
According to a news release on Monday, Mayes stated that those who bring dangerous drugs into our communities will face consequences. He emphasized that his office will utilize all available resources to combat the proliferation of harmful drugs and safeguard the well-being of Arizonans.
