A mother in North Carolina has been arrested over 1,500 miles away, a year after her child tragically passed away from consuming a fatal amount of fentanyl.
The Mooresville Police Department made an announcement on Friday stating that Riley Tehy Wormington, aged 23, was apprehended in Denver, Colorado by U.S. Marshals on February 18, 2025. She is currently being transported back to North Carolina to face multiple charges, including 2nd-degree murder, felony child abuse, felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On February 13, 2024, emergency responders were called to a residence on Ridge Avenue in Mooresville regarding a medical emergency involving a child under the age of 2. Despite their best efforts to save the child’s life, tragically, the child did not survive.
Mooresville Police have concluded that the child’s tragic death was a result of ingesting fentanyl. Throughout the investigation, Wormington gave birth to a second child and relocated to another state.
After the birth of her second child, Wormington also had to face extra charges. These charges included felony child abuse, felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mooresville is located about 30 miles north of Charlotte.
