Mother And Stepfather Of Missing Children Located In Wyoming Extradited To Alabama

The mother and step-father of two children who were previously reported missing and later found in Wyoming have been extradited to Alabama, according to WHNT.

Leanna Varcoe was extradited from Cheyenne, Wyo. and booked into the Morgan County Jail on Feb. 24, as stated in the arrest records.

Leanna, a mother of a 9-year-old and a 5-year-old, has been reported missing along with her children. According to investigators, it is believed that she went to a family member’s house on Feb. 3, took both children, and fled.

Zachary Varcoe, the stepfather of the children, was extradited from Wyoming to Morgan County and taken into custody on February 22nd, as revealed by court records.

The Decatur Police Department received a report of child abuse on January 24th from the Morgan County Department of Human Resources. In response, a detective from the Decatur Police Department’s Family Services Unit was assigned to the case and initiated an investigation.

Authorities revealed during the investigation that they had granted temporary custody of the children to a family member residing in Toney. On February 5th, it was discovered that Leanna, along with Zachary, had potentially left the state with the children.

After a meeting with the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office, the sheriff’s office confirmed that detectives have obtained an interference of custody warrant for Leanna. Furthermore, based on the evidence gathered, a warrant for child abuse has been obtained for Zachary, as stated by the police.

Police in Cheyenne, Wyoming, discovered the children in a hotel parking lot. Authorities had received information about a wanted couple believed to be in the vicinity. After consulting with the management of the Sands Motel, officers were directed to the specific room where the couple was staying.

Upon the arrival of the police at the motel, the couple yielded themselves. Subsequently, both children were placed under the care and protection of the authorities.

Leanna is currently in custody with a bond set at $100,000, according to arrest records. Zachary, on the other hand, is also being held in the Morgan County Jail with a bond amounting to $210,000. The charges against him, as stated in the arrest records, were labeled as “miscellaneous.”
