Mexican authorities have apprehended two drug lords in their efforts to enhance security in Sinaloa, a state plagued by violent clashes between rival factions of a cartel.
Crescensio Moreno, who was wanted by the FBI, was apprehended by authorities in Sinaloa after attempting to escape from the police in a vehicle, as stated by a government spokesperson.
According to the statement, Moreno’s car was discovered to contain plastic bags filled with blue pills. The FBI had been searching for him due to his suspected participation in a significant drug trafficking operation.
Authorities have apprehended Hernan Domingo Ojeda Lopez, who is famously known as “El Mero Mero.” During the arrest, he was discovered in possession of a handgun and two bags of fentanyl pills. The government spokesperson has confirmed his connection to the Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman family and his alleged involvement in smuggling fentanyl into the United States.
According to the spokesperson, law enforcement officials have arrested 10 individuals across multiple states for their participation in a human trafficking network that specifically targeted migrants.
On Monday, the spokesperson confirmed that Osiel Cardenas Guillen was deported back to Mexico, where he was immediately arrested. Guillen had been sought after for his alleged involvement in homicides and public health-related crimes.
President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration is facing mounting pressure to enhance security and regain control in Sinaloa due to the ongoing battles. Local outlet Espejo reported that during a 30-day period until mid-October, a staggering 202 people lost their lives, while 234 individuals were reported as “disappeared” within the state.
