A Maryland man has been charged in Prince George’s County with possessing an explosive device and illegally possessing ammunition.
Robert Criss, 43, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, is being held with no bond.
Prince George’s County Police and the Prince George’s County Fire Marshal Bomb Squad responded to a storage facility in the 4400 block of Suitland Road around 5:35 p.m. on March 12.
Police said an employee phoned 911 after discovering a suspicious item in a storage container rented by Criss. The PGFD Bomb Squad rendered safe the handmade explosive device, which was identified as a pipe bomb.
Following a search of the unit, officers recovered ballistic-resistant body armor and various ammunition. Criss is barred from owning ammunition due to a prior criminal record. On March 13, 2025, PGPD patrol officers apprehended Criss as he returned to the storage site.
This remains an open and ongoing investigation.
