Man shot in Michigan during a cross-state police chase that ended near the Indiana-Ohio state line

A man was shot by a Michigan deputy during a pursuit that extended into Indiana, according to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release from the agency, a 33-year-old suspect was pulled over by a deputy from the Branch County Sheriff’s office at around 5 p.m. on Monday evening. The driver initially tried to flee, driving off the road. In an attempt to apprehend the suspect, a deputy discharged their weapon.

The suspect, after being shot, managed to escape the scene once again. However, he was eventually caught in Indiana, near the Ohio state line. Law enforcement then took him to Parkview Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.

According to the release, the investigation has been taken over by the Michigan State Police. The man currently has charges pending in both Indiana and Michigan.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from various law enforcement agencies and emergency services during the incident. These included the Michigan State Police, Indiana State Police, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont Police Department, Angola Police Department, and Steuben County EMS.
