A man in Arizona has been charged with threatening to kill the newly-elected president of the United States, according to a criminal complaint filed in the state.
Rene Ortiz was arrested on January 17, just a few days before Donald Trump’s inauguration, on charges of allegedly making violent threats against the 47th president.
On November 4, 2024, it is alleged that Ortiz delivered a document to the federal courthouse in Phoenix. The document seemingly requested the court’s approval for the execution of the presidential candidate who emerges as the winner of the general election on November 5.
A few weeks later, Ortiz reportedly delivered another document to the courthouse in Tucson. This document also contained a threat of violence targeting the president.
According to court records, Ortiz reportedly confessed to investigators that he made the threats. He stated that his grievances were directed towards the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
