Kids Drive Toy Cars to Surgery in Heartwarming Hospital Initiative

At the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California, they have found an innovative solution to alleviate some of the anxiety experienced by young patients.

They offer the option for these patients to drive themselves to surgery in either a small, pink Volkswagen Beetle or a sleek black Mercedes.

Doctors Medical Center has recently added a new vehicle to our paediatric surgical program. In addition to the little black Mercedes introduced last year, we now have a charming pink Volkswagen Beetle.

These adorable rides are used to transport our youngest patients to the operating room. The main objective is to alleviate anxiety and reduce stress, ensuring a less intimidating experience for all parties involved. It’s always beneficial to have multiple options available, don’t you think?

The hospital introduced the black Mercedes last year, which turned out to be a huge success. In fact, it was so well-received that one of the hospital employees and their family decided to generously donate a pink Beetle.

The hospital shared a heartwarming video showcasing one of their patients enjoying a ride in a car. They captioned the post by saying, “Caroline takes our new pink Beetle for a spin, with a little passenger in tow!

Doctors Medical Center is proud to offer these two little cars for our young surgical patients to ride into the operating room. It’s incredible to witness how the stress and anxiety fade away as soon as they hop in the car.”

The hospital shared with PEOPLE that these adorable vehicles transport our littlest patients to the operating room. Their aim is to alleviate anxiety and fear, creating a less intimidating experience for everyone involved.

“When children discover that they can enter the operating room while riding in a fun little car, their faces light up and their fears often dissipate. Furthermore, when parents witness their children being comforted, it also brings them a sense of relief.”

Users on Facebook showed a great deal of enthusiasm for the concept of the cars. One person commented that it is delightful to witness a smile instead of worry or fear.

One person expressed their excitement, saying, “Congratulations! This is absolutely amazing!” Another individual chimed in, saying, “Way to go! This is so wonderful.”

The hospital received generous offers from multiple individuals who wanted to donate cars to expand their fleet. In an effort to facilitate the donation process, the hospital encouraged interested donors to reach out via email.
